“With RMS, help is available 24/7. Wherever we are.”
When you transport refrigerated goods, a breakdown is more than a truck standing still. Put 30 tonnes of meat in the trailer, add a delivery deadline – and every minute suddenly matters. Erikssons Åkeri, based in Tomelilla in southern Sweden, operates around 80 trucks and close to 100 trailers. Most of the cargo is temperature-controlled, with trucks running throughout Sweden and regularly into Western Europe.

“With RMS, we finally have someone who actually responds around the clock – across Europe,” says Robin Eriksson.
Robin is the third generation of the Eriksson family to run the business, which dates back to the 1960s.
The relationship with RMS, however, started much closer to home. For many years, Erikssons has worked with Nisses Däck, the local tyre and service specialist in Tomelilla. When Nisses joined Road Mobility Services (RMS) in 2025, the local workshop suddenly became the gateway to a much bigger network.
“We’ve always had excellent support at home. What we were missing was a really good solution when something happened out on the road. Now we have one – and it’s not just about tyres.”
One call. Then they take over.
When a truck runs into trouble, the driver or transport office calls one number. RMS takes it from there.
“We make one call and wait for the service van. It works just as well in the Netherlands as it does in the far north of Sweden.”
Flat tyres are the most common reason for calling, and are usually fixed at the roadside. But sometimes it is a hose, an air spring, the brakes or another mechanical problem that brings the truck to a halt.
Erikssons has its own workshop in Tomelilla and handles most repairs in-house. So out on the road, the priority is simple: get the truck moving again.

“We want a quick repair that gets us home. We don’t want 30 tonnes of meat sitting by the roadside while we wait for a workshop – and then pay them to do something we can do ourselves.”
Robin has also been impressed by the technicians who turn up in the service vans.
“They know heavy vehicles. And sometimes they’re a bit like MacGyver. Tyres, engines, hydraulics – they find a way to get you moving.”
Trouble abroad? One call again.
For a Swedish haulier running into Western Europe, a breakdown abroad can quickly become complicated.
“Getting emergency assistance on the Continent used to be both difficult and expensive. You never really knew what it was going to cost, and sometimes they wanted payment upfront – in cash.”
RMS has changed that.
“It’s almost like having a VIP card. We make one call and RMS sorts it out. The cost comes on our invoice and is allocated directly to the correct vehicle. Simple.”
Bigger network. Same people.
Being part of an international service network hasn’t changed who Erikssons calls back home. The everyday contact is still Nisses Däck in Tomelilla.
And roadside assistance is only part of the job. Preventing the breakdown in the first place matters just as much. Nisses carries out annual wheel alignment checks on Erikssons’ trucks and trailers, helping cut tyre wear and fuel consumption – and reducing the risk of punctures.
“The more preventive work we do, the less roadside assistance we need. We’ve built our relationship with Nisses over many years. They may now be part of RMS, but the local contact is still there.
“And that’s exactly how we want it.”
